David Rowe

David Rowe tried using a sandwich-board gimmick in his job hunt, he ended up getting a job using that tactic!

It looks like sites such as Monster and Craigslist may be in trouble! With high unemployment rates worldwide, they’ve been highly saturated for quite some time now, making it hard for people to stand out.

Well, a young man in England did just that: he stood out. I suppose “paced about” would be more fitting. The recent college grad slapped on a double-sided sign, and beat the pavement on London’s Fleet Street.

His sign read: “Job Wanted. History Graduate Of Kent. INTERVIEW ME.”

Probably the brightest part of his ploy was that the sign proclaimed that he would work the first month for free, at which point the employer could decide whether or not to keep him.

Well, he was in fact interviewed, and offered a job. And, no, it wasn’t to be one of those dancing guys that stand on busy street corners with big signs trying to lure you in. A man named Gavin Walker seemed to like his spirit, and gave him a shot.

The Daily Mail quoted Walker as saying:

“I liked the fact he had thought out of the box. I was impressed by that. I was even more impressed after the interview. He’s very employable, so much so I offered him a job to work with me.”

So it turns out Rowe will be able to start chipping away at his £20,000 student loan debt after all. You have to hand it to him for not laying around feeling sorry for himself! By the way, he’s not the only one who has thought of this. I was able to track down dozens of similar stories. I’ve thrown in a video below about an MIT grad last year in New York who did the same thing, only his sign wasn’t quite as nice.
