Melanie Oudin Makes Quarterfinals
Melanie Oudin is the first 17-year-old to make the quarterfinals in the U.S. Open.
The American teenager doesn’t have a lot of power in her serve put she is precise with her shots and has a lot of heart. Her ‘never say die’ spirit has helped in four straight comebacks against high ranking Russian players. Those players were; Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Elena Dementieva, Maria Sharapova and on Monday, Nadia Petrova.
“The crowd really supported me through that game. And once I got to 4-all, it was going to be tight and close, and I had been in that situation before in earlier matches, so I thought I had a good chance.” said Oudin of the match against Petrova.
The young tennis star also has shoes from her 15-year-old boyfriend that read “believe”.
If she ends up winning it all versus Serena Williams you can bet Hollywood will make a movie about this. She is quite the underdog and will be so again versus 19-year-old Danish player Caroline Wozniacki.
Wozniacki, ranked 20th, knows the momentum will be against her, “Hopefully, someone from the crowd will cheer for me.”
